Gum Health & Preventative Care

"The Mouth is a Window into the Health of the Body!"
Preventive Care is an important step in achieving stable, long term oral and general health. Research indicates that inadequate oral health can increase your risk of stroke, heart attack, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, good overall health may be enhanced by a healthy mouth.

Correct Brushing Techniques

At our office, we recommend the following brushing tips toward healthy teeth and gums:

  • Brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice each day.
  • Brush with a soft round bristle toothbrush or Sonicare/Oral B electric brush.

The Importance of Flossing

To avoid periodontal disease and cavities, it is imperative to floss and clean between your teeth at least once each day. The way in which you floss around your teeth is also important. Incorrect flossing techniques are often ineffective at removing disease causing plaque and can even damage your gum tissues. There are many effective interdental aids that also help to clean between teeth such as proxa-brushes and super floss. Anti-microbial mouth rinse may also be effective if used as part of your daily oral hygiene routine.

Maintenance Visits

Proper oral hygiene and routine dental check-ups are essential to keep your smile bright and healthy.  Clean teeth and healthy gums are fundamental for overall health and well-being. Regular cleanings are essential for all patients, especially those with periodontal disease. After an examination at our office, we will make recommendations tailored to your individual needs.
