When it comes to enhancing the appearance of your smile, the gums are often overlooked. Your gums can have a powerful impact on the appearance of your smile. As the name implies, Cosmetic Gum Enhancement is a treatment designed to recontour a patient's gumline and improve the esthetic appearance of their smile.

Healthy gum tissue protects your teeth from disease and sensitivity. When you experience loss of gum tissue around your teeth it can be the beginning of serious oral health problems. Fortunately, we can perform a predictable treatment for reversing this gum tissue loss (recession). In the past, this procedure required that a piece of tissue be harvested from the roof of the mouth to serve as the graft material. Now, we are able to use a donor tissue, Alloderm, to grow back the missing gum tissue predictably. Alloderm allows regrowth of your own healthy gum tissue without the concern and discomfort associated with palatal tissue harvesting.

Patients who have teeth that appear longer in the mouth (often referred to as "long in the tooth") or those who have severe sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweets will benefit most from this treatment. Following Cosmetic Gum Enhancement the gum tissue is contoured to ensure the gumline is even and all teeth are in proportion to each other. After treatment, teeth appear much more cosmetically appealing.
